The Blind Date

Often when most of us hear the words blind date, we cringe and the inevitable "ughh" comes soon after. Now if it's one of our parents or uncles is trying to set us up on that blind date, those cringes, with the ughs get more pronounced and louder. For some reason we're conditioned to believe, from a very early age, that our older relatives just don't get it.

I mean I understand that feeling.  I can hardly imagine my stoic, retired father, the man who prefers polyester dress shirts to cotton so he doesn't have to iron them, ever having danced or sporting the latest fashions.  And the idea of him nervous trying to ask my mother on their first date; I chuckle at that thought cause for as long as I've known him, I have never seen him nervous nor sporting the lastest fashions. With our parents having spent so much of their time and energy on us, it's hard to imagine a world for them where it didn't revolve around us. Well that is until we move into adulthood ourselves.

As we become adults we start to get a glimpse into our parents' lives before us.  We see our friends getting married and starting families and all of a sudden we see our parents in a new light.  We see the same struggles and celebrations of raising a family and all through out this process, most of us think we're still pretty cool too. I guess when it comes down to it, we're just the next generation's version of our parents.  That would mean our parents were cool, had fun, lived lives, drank too much, cheated on a math test, dated more than one person, road triped with their friends, and all the other things we believed to be our exclusive domain.  I guess than they would be pretty qualified to even help us find a date.

Thankfully, Michelle and Vincent took the dating advice of her dad and his uncle who set them up on a blind date.  I would say it was a success cause here we are, just over two years later, celebrating their wedding.  Both of them looking as happy and nervous as I imagined their first date to have been.

Michelle and Vincent's relatives probably know them better than they assume.  They have spent years watching them grow and develop into two of the kindest, most considerate and soft-spoken people I've met.  But most importantly, their relatives have a deep caring and love that was obvious all day long.  So I can't think of a better group of people to set up a blind date.

Congratulations.

These pictures should belong in a BRIDES magazine. They are so beautiful. The white doves are spectacular. All photos were taken just perfectly. Well done. The church pictures are very impressive with the background.
