The Party of the Century
I do love all things Chicago, I think this is a pretty well known fact by now. Chicago despite its problems has produced many of the iconic things we have come to know as America. Things like the ferris wheel invented by George Ferris. Many of us grew up with Cracker Jacks as children. What do these things have in common? Well both of them were introduced at the first Chicago's World Fair in 1893. The fairgrounds were known as the White City due to it's architecture. It was an historic event for the city even inspiring a recent New York Times Best Seller, The Devil in the White City. At the time it really was the party of the century.
Fast forward to 2010. It is summer again and white is still the theme of the day, but this time it was for the wedding of Bri and Chris. They had planned for this day for well over a year, meticulously going over all the details to produce a great celebration. Bri was all smiles as was Chris. As an aside, the best advice I can give couples for great wedding day pictures is to just laugh and smile and revel in the emotions of the day. Bri and Chris were doing just that.
The party they had planned was at the Field Museum, coincidentally it was the same day the Eagles, The Dixie Chicks and Keith Urban were to play right across the street at Soldier Field. The logistics were a bit challenging, but at the end all the activity just added to the energy of the day.
Chris and Bri, both big fans of the Cubs and things Chicago, chose the Chicago World's Fair as the design theme. Everything went perfectly and the party, even as I was leaving, was in full swing and just getting better. As I left, I looked back at the lights on the dance floor and felt the music resonating in the great room of the Field Museum, I had to smile as I thought, for Bri and Chris, just like the World's Fair this was the party of the century. And while nothing like Cracker Jacks or ferris wheels were invented, it was the start of a relationship that will have it's own history.
